THE WORK UNDERTAKEN

This project involved mostly removing old cement pointing, and reinstating a proper lime mortar, on the front and side elevations of two adjoining houses.

The elevations in question were built upon the last remaining part of the old abbey that was torn down by Cromwell, its boundary wall.

Once the cement repairs were removed, we were able to repoint the wall using a lime mortar consisting of a sharp sand, lime, and crushed oyster shells, to replicate the original mortar which would have used aggregates dredged from the local creek.
